Daily Beast Presents: The Nearest Fathest

A short, verité video series I produced for The Daily Beast and Land Rover in association with V.I.M.B.Y. (Video In My Backyard) where we sought out to expose uncovered gems lurking beneath the surface of New York City and Washington, D.C. The name is meant to have the viewer/traveler journey to a place that is near but transport you to a faraway place right in your own backyard.

Produced at Blind Whino Art Gallery in Southeast, Washington, D.C. this was once an abandoned church by Nats Stadium in our Nation’s Capital until Art Whino transformed it into a world class venue and gallery and invited world renown street artist “HENSE” to adorn the outside with his unique painting style.
An intrepid group of Gothams finest citizen have been bouldering in the crown jewel of NYC’s park system Central Park using various rocky outcrops to practice this subset of rock climbing in one of the most storied urban landscapes.
Glen Echo Park was one of the premiere amusement parks located on the border of Washington, D.C. and Maryland that was the pinnacle of Americana in its heyday in the middle of the 20th Century. After suffering a devastating fire, as well as lack of direction, focus, and interest it has persevered as an artist haven for DIY creatives to make, create, and showcase their crafts and passions in a historic enclave.
Unassumingly located in Washington Heights, Manhattan, NYC is a beautiful destination: The Cloisters. Run by The MET, it is a preeminent example of Roman and Gothic architecture housing over 5,000 tapestries, panel paintings, manuscripts, etc. from the 12th thru the 15th centuries surrounded by picturesque views, gardens, and architecture one is truly removed from the urban hustle-and-bustle of NYC living for a moment.
